Oh, golly. Can’t we just skip this one? No. We can’t. But here’s something you can start doing today…right now. Don’t think about doing an hour of cardio or 45 minutes of weight training. Think about moving actively for just 5 minutes a day
! That’s all. If the thought of more than that seems overwhelming, this should be just the ticket. Anyone can do anything for 5 minutes. Walk around your block once or twice. March in place while you’re watching a tv show. Go to the park with your kids/dogs (weather permitting). Not only will this definitely have benefits in the long run, but it will give you the incentive to do even more when the time comes.
Five minutes is a baby step. It’s a tiny commitment. And when you follow through and complete a tiny commitment, it does wonders for your spirit and your mind. (See how they’re all intertwined and connected?) You start to believe in yourself. You start to see yourself making the changes that matter and that lead to all the goals you have for yourself.
Here’s another baby step in the area of the body/nutrition. You don’t have to change every single aspect of your eating lifestyle. According to Chris & Heidi Powell, here are the Foundation Five that you can start doing immediately:
1) Drink at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces every day.
2) Eat breakfast as soon as your feeding window opens (kinda makes me feel like a zoo animal.)
3) Eat a source of protein at every meal.
4) Reduce your daily sugar intake to < 50g. and your daily sodium intake to < 3000mg.
5) Deliberately move for at least 5 minutes every day (already talked about that one.)
These are NOT hard steps. They’re relatively easy to do and easy to incorporate into an already-busy lifestyle. And if you can’t start doing all 5 at once, then add one of these things this week, then add another one to it next week, and so on.
